I am studying Mechanical Engineering at the Izmir Institute of Technology, while also pursuing a minor in Computer Engineering. In the spring of 2024, I took part in the Erasmus exchange programme at Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia; during that time I added speaking skills to my existing reading and writing English. I completed internships at the General Directorate of Highways and CMS Wheel Industry, and gained hands-on CAD experience with Creo Parametric by working part-time for about 8.5 months in the R&D department of Groupe Atlantic. In the summer of 2026, I interned at Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ). Given my age and experience I am not highly knowledgeable yet, but I am always passionate about learning. Engineering is a true passion for me — discovering the engineering behind every device and every structure we use in daily life never ceases to amaze me.

3-Stage Gearbox Design for a Wind Turbine

  • Designed a two-stage gearbox with 3 fixed speed ratios that connects the wind turbine's rotor shaft to the generator
  • Checked tooth root (bending) and surface (contact) strength of the teeth using AGMA procedures
  • A helical gear alternative was also evaluated, but a more economical configuration of 8 gears using standard full-depth spur gears was preferred due to its lower cost
  • Targeting a minimum service life of 80,000 hours and 98% reliability, the overall safety factor was kept in the 1.8-2.0 range

Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchanger Design

  • Designed a shell-and-tube heat exchanger to transfer 840 MWt of heat from a sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR) to water
  • Applied the Seban & Shimazaki correlation to determine heat transfer coefficients; evaluated flow regimes with Reynolds/Prandtl/Nusselt calculations
  • Improved heat transfer efficiency with a counter-flow layout and triangular tube arrangement
  • Compared 3 different configurations by varying tube count, tube diameter and shell diameter; selected the design providing 44% effectiveness with 316 stainless steel

Chain Drive System Design

  • Determined the design power for a chain system driving a centrifugal compressor by calculating service, temperature and speed factors per the SKF catalogue
  • Selected standard sprockets according to the target transmission ratio; verified the output speed within a 7% tolerance range
  • Compared single-row (28B-1) and double-row (24B-2) chain alternatives; the finer-pitch double-row design was recommended as it reduces the polygon effect
  • Calculated the chain length with the K-factor method and determined the appropriate lubrication type
